Tree Risk and Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) - 14.5 CEUs
The ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) program provides an opportunity for professionals in the arboriculture industry to expand their knowledge through education and training in the fundamentals of tree risk assessment. This qualification promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk. The results of a tree risk assessment can provide tree owners and risk managers with the information to make informed decisions to enhance tree benefits, health, and longevity.
The course includes Tree Biology and Mechanics, Tree Inspection and Assessment, Data Analysis and Risk Categorization, and Risk Reporting. The Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) Course prepares the participant to take the TRAQ assessment to become ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified.
The qualification consists of a 2-day educational course followed by a ½-day assessment that includes both written and field components. It is required that you attend the course and successfully complete the assessment in order to receive this qualification.
Eligibility
An eligible applicant for a TRAQ course must have earned at least one of the following credentials:
- ISA Certified Arborist
- ISA Board Certified Master Arborist
- ISA Certified Urban Forest Professional
- ISA Certified Arborist Utility Specialist
- ISA Certified Tree Climber
- ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified
If you Do NOT hold an ISA credential, a degree in arboriculture, urban forestry, traditional forestry, or horticulture that is part of a national qualifications framework or is from a college or university that is accredited or recognized under a system that is substantially similar to accreditation may be approved.

Schedule
- Day 1: Educational Sessions (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
- Day 2: Educational Sessions (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
- Day 3: Performance-based exam and written exam (8:00 am – 11:30 am)
**It is required that you attend the course and successfully pass the assessment to receive this qualification.
What to Bring
- A government-issued photo identification card, such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID (ID must match the name used to register for the TRAQ workshop)
- Hard Hat
- High visibility vest, coat or clothing
- Appropriate attire for indoor and outdoor activities
- Writing utensil(s), including at least one #2 pencil
*Outdoor field sessions will proceed in all weather conditions, so please dress accordingly.

ISA Prairie Chapter Member: $890
Non–Member: $1020 (includes an ISA Prairie Chapter Membership for 1 year)
**Registration is limited to the first 20 participants and requires a minimum of 15 registrants to proceed.**
Cancellation: No cancellations will be accepted after the registration deadline.
REQUIRED STEPS FOR REGISTRATION
- Sign in to your MyISA account and verify that your email and contact information are accurate. If you do not have an account, you must create one. Link: ISA Sign In/Create Account
- Select ISA Credentialing Portal to access the ISA Cred HQ system.
- Locate the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification and follow the prompts to determine or verify eligibility.
- AFTER eligibility is CONFIRMED in Cred HQ, you can register for the TRAQ course.

Jonathan leverages previous experiences as a forester, arborist, teacher, public speaker, and military veteran to provide quality instruction to his students, where he enriches course concepts with practical experiences.

Instructor – Steve Lane
Steve Lane is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist with more than 20 years of professional experience in urban forestry, where he performs tree risk management planning, tree inventory, permit and plan review, expert witness testimony, and urban forestry management plans for public and private clients.
Steve graduated from the University of Oregon with a double major in Environmental Science and Geography. He brings his real-world experiences from around the country into the classroom to enable students to understand complex concepts from a practical framework while maintaining an enjoyable experience for learners.
